So Did You Get Yours?

As many of you know Facebook opened their customized (vanity) URLs on Saturday at 12:01 AM Eastern.

Well I didn’t get mine, http://www.facebook.com/jamesseligman, but I was able to get http://www.facebook.com/jamesjseligman. What is interesting is that it said my name was not available, but yet it goes to a page not found? I know Shawn Collins had the same issue, when he tried to get http://www.facebook.com/shawncollins and he was told it wasn’t available and that url also goes to a page not found, strange indeed. Shawn can be found at http://www.facebook.com/affiliatetip.

So were you able to grab your name or the name you wanted?

PS: If I am not friend on Facebook, friend me and I will friend you back.

Why another blog about forums? Great question, we are just a couple of forum owners who have built ours forums from the ground-up. We just wanted a blog for real life forum owners, with real life experiences.

I was hoping to get facebook.com/logan but it said unavailable but leads to a page cannot be found page, so I ended up with facebook.com/loganthompson

That's weird that you have the same thing – I wonder why they held back some names.

Do you happen to have a fan page in your name?

I've got one, and it ranks well in Google on searches for my name. I was thinking maybe they were being kind and holding if for me until user names can be selected for fan pages with less than 1000 fans. 🙂

@Shawn Collins – No, not a rock star yet like you with the fan page or maybe Facebook was thinking I was going to become one. 🙂

I don't what Facebook did by holding names back, but I haven't heard anybody else having issues with their own name, have you?

Seemed like everybody else was fine – they were all celebrating their new names on Twitter afterwards, and I was lost with my second pick name.
