Niche Website Challenge

Well 3 weeks into our challenge and I have officially launched 12 sites, 4 of them just this week. I plan on doing 3 more and I will be done. I have other projects that need my attention.

Currently some of my sites are starting to rank very well, in Google and Bing. Some are even on the front page.

So what have done so far?

Looked for offers through ShareASale merchants that have datafeeds
Bought exact match domains using http://bustaname.com and Google’s Keyword Tool
Installed WordPress using Thesis Theme and CSVPiG
Installed Google XML Sitemap plugin (and other plugins)
Submitted sites and sitemaps to Google and Bing Webmaster Tools

So far I have made $2.83 with Google Adsense and currently $0 in total commissions. I think that might currently put me in 2nd place.

Hopefully I will have some good news in time for the next update.

Lately I have been building out some datafeed sites using CSVPiG and WordPress for the Niche Website Challenge.

One of the frustrations that I’ve been having is utilizing the subcategories field and getting them to show up correctly. I have been just using the “main” category filed and not the subcategories.

I have been told use:

main category/subcategory

Well that has never worked for me. After doing some more research and testing out several different combinations to make it work, I finally got it to work by using:

main category/subcategory,main category

I hope that helps you out in the future, I know that it’s frustrated me for a long time.

Let me know if you have any questions.

Thought I would give a quick update on how I am doing in the challenge.

The challenge started on February 1st, you can read more about what is going on here.

So far I have built out 7 complete sites on my way to a total of at least 10. I hope to have #8 done by tomorrow.

I have changed out 1 of my original domains after doing some more research and I might be adding some more sites after I get my minimum 10 sites built.

No commissions so far, but getting very little traffic. Most of the sites I launched last week are starting to show up in the SERPs. I want to get all 10 launched before I really start link building and concentrate more on the SEO.

Today we started the Niche Website Challenge. So what is this challenge about? Who is participating in it?

The Niche Website Challenge is a “contest” of some affiliates, Chris Guthrie, Logan Thompson, Joe Sousa, and myself to see if we could build out some websites and drive traffic it to them, without using any paid traffic sources or leveraging any of our existing sites or email lists. We can use social media, but again we can’t leverage our existing accounts.

Each of us has to build at least 10 niche websites of any topic. All the sites have to be brand new and could only have been purchased within the last 10 days or so and no one could launch their sites until today, February 1st.

Winner: Is the first person to reach $1000 in commission in a calendar month.

Once Chris gets our website up (hint, hint) and running you will be able to follow some of our progress at Here

You will also be able to follow my progress here, on my blog. (Which reminds me, I need to update and finish my blog theme)
