Where has James gone?

by on December 12, 2006

Well I am here to tell you I am around.

Some of you may know that I have a 250 gallon saltwater tank install in my office above my desk.

Well this past Friday it decided that it didn’t want to hold water anymore and sprung a leak. Yes, all 250 gallons!! All he water ended up all over the floor ruining the carpet, the pad, and possibly the sub floor due to the fact that since all the water leaked out and who knows how long it was sitting there. I am currently working on it.

One computer did get water logged and another; well I haven’t figured that out yet. So I apologies for the delay and I will start a 6-part series very soon. I hope by Thursday I will have part one up.

Thanks for all the e-mails and I will be back shortly.

James

Did you know that you can customize the color, text, and even add a logo on the “Advertise on This Site” page that potential advertisers are seeing?

Here is how to do it:

Sign in to your Google AdSense account, then click on the My Account tab and scroll down until you see

Figure 1

Now, click on the blue edit link and you’ll see where you can make changes.

There you can do lots of different tweaking, for instance you can: change your site name, add your logo, change the text to your own description, choose new colors, and so on. Google highly recommends that you change these values to make them more appealing to advertisers.

Unfortunately at this time you cannot create a separate page for each of your sites.

Good luck and let us know how it goes.

When a partner goes AWOL

by on November 28, 2006

So, what happens when your co-owning partner goes AWOL?

When I started HeroLounge about 6 weeks ago, someone offered to be my partner. It was great, because he was an upstanding netizen. He threw some money into the project and so did I. I worked furiously hard on the content and ogranization of the board, while he handled the sitemaps, and paid posting.

Then after 4 weeks, he dropped off the face of the earth as far as I was concerned. What should I do? I knew his baby girl was previously sick in the hospital, so how much time should I give him to contact me? I had his phone number, but the last time I called him he seemed irked by it. (more like his wife)

What makes matters worse is that the site is located on his dedicated server, and I don’t have any of the pass codes. What’s an admin to do? I sent him an email and two PM’s… one on the board, and one on the other board we met on. [click here to read more…]

vBulletin 3.6.3 Released

by on November 8, 2006

An undocumented behavior in all Windows versions of Internet Explorer has rendered vBulletin vulnerable to a potential cross-site scripting flaw (XSS). Therefore, we have decided to put out a preventative security release in order to work-around the Internet Explorer problem before it is exploited.

3.6.3 also includes fixes for approximately 50 bugs that were discovered in 3.6.2. For this reason, we recommend all customers upgrade to 3.6.3 as soon as possible. If this is not possible and you are currently running 3.6.2, you may use the patch method discussed here.
