Noppid owner over at Computer Help Forum has a great contest going on right now.

For the 30 days after January 5th, 2007 up to and including till midnight February 5th, 2007, there will be a posting contest here at CHF that you can participate in to win a copy of vBPicGallery with download access for two years. Three winners will be selected!

The rules are simple, be a member and post. The posts must be of value. If posts are of the “LOL” or “me too” nature, they may not be counted. You must have a minimum of 25 posts to be eligible to win.

Winners will be selected by looking at forum statistics and the administration of CHF has the final say if any questions or conflicts arise in or from the rules. Existing vBPicGallery license holders that participate may have their existing licenses extended.

I have one on my Demolition Forum and I absolutely love it.

I want to congratulate the team over at AdminFusion for hitting 100,000 posts in just a little over a year.

I have been a member almost since the beginning and to me they are the best forum for Forum Administrators.

I have become friends with a lot of the members and have found a couple of partners there for some other projects.

Again Congrats!

We all knew this was coming soon. If you had images next to your ads, Are you going to take yours down now?

Ad and image placement: a policy clarification

We’ve recently received a number of emails from publishers asking how we feel about the placement of images near Google ad units. There’s been some confusion on this issue, and so we turned to our policy team to set the record straight.

Can I place small images next to my Google ads?

We ask that publishers not line up images and ads in a way that suggests a relationship between the images and the ads. If your visitors believe that the images and the ads are directly associated, or that the advertiser is offering the exact item found in the neighboring image, they may click the ad expecting to find something that isn’t actually being offered. That’s not a good experience for users or advertisers.

Publishers should also be careful to avoid similar implementations that people could find misleading. For instance, if your site contains a directory of Flash games, you should not format the ads to mimic the game descriptions.

What if I place a space or a line between my images and my ads? Would that work?

No. If the ads and the images appear to be associated, inserting a small space or a line between the images and ads will not make the implementation compliant.

Does this mean I can’t place ads on pages with images?

You can definitely place Google ads on pages containing images — just make sure that the ads and images are not arranged in a way that could easily mislead or confuse your visitors. For example, if you run a stock photography site with a catalog of thumbnail images, don’t line the ads up with the thumbnails in a way that could be misleading. Consider using a full border around your ads or changing your ad colors, for example.

What do unacceptable implementations look like?

Here are some examples that wouldn’t comply with our policies.

Game Images
Fruit Images

I want to thank all who have sent e-mails checking on us. I am just getting back up and running, so I will reply to them shortly.

As most of you may or may have not known we had a terrible windstorm up here in the Pacific Northwest on Thursday night going into Friday morning. At the height of the storm we had wind gust of up to 75 mph with sustain winds of 50 mph plus. Out on the coast they had sustained winds of 90mph with gust topping 110+ mph.

We lost power at about 9:00 PM on Thursday night and our power was finally restored about 30 hours later, we are one of the lucky ones that got our power back. At the end of the winds, over 1 million households and business were without power, today there is still close to 500,000 without power. The temperatures have been very cold for the past couple of nights with last night’s dropping to about 25 degrees and the high is only supposed to be in the low 40’s today and going to possibly get colder overnight.

Lines to the gas stations that had power were 30-40 cars deep for each pump. Lines at the fast food and other restaurants that had power were almost 2 hours just to get your food. In some areas there are so many tree branches and debris that you couldn’t even see the asphalt pavement. In some other areas in took almost 3 hours to go about 2 miles. It has been crazy.

We survived pretty well, as I cooked out on a propane camping stove and we also cooked hamburgers on the barbeque. So all in all we made it through it okay.

None of mine or my wife’s family suffered any damage to our personnel property and everyone is okay. My sister’s house still does not have power, as well as my sister-in-law’s. They do not have any idea how long it will be, although they are staying with family till there power comes on.

This is all on top of what happened last Friday (12/09), were my 250 gallon fish tank sprung a leak and damaged the family room/office carpet, pad and sub floor, and a couple of computers and a lot of papers, so we were just cleaning this up with all this came.

It’s amazing what Mother Nature can hand out. All I can say is be prepared, we they announced that there was going to be a storm coming with winds like we haven’t seen in years, we got the supplies together and as soon as the power went out we were prepared.

Know where you want to go

by on December 14, 2006

Know what success looks like, so you’ll recognize it when you get there and also realizing that few busy people want to take the time or put in the effort to help you figure out what you want to do or be when you grow up—that is your responsibility!!
