LEVERAGE Don’t Makes Deals Without It!

The worst thing you can do in a deal is seem desperate to make it. That makes the other guy smell blood, and then you’re dead.

The best thing you can do is deal from strength; leverage is the biggest strength you can have. Leverage is having something the other guy wants, or better yet something he needs, or best of all, simply can’t do without.

    A master negotiator recommended a book called 3D Negotiation (Lax and Sebenius). He actually sent me the audio book CDs – apprently, its the holy grail of negotiation. I'll be blunt, I haven't been able to get past the second CD – the voice is so monotone I was trying to figure out if it was a text-to-speech engine for the first 30 minutes. It isn't – the reader is just monotone. Anyway, not to detract from the content, that book apparently condenses a massive amount of experience.
